The Grisha
review 1: A great conclusion to a wonderful trilogy. In this last part of the series, Alina must face the Darkling to save Ravka. She and Mal, along with the remaining few loyal Grisha, search for the third amplifier that will make Alina's power strong enough to defeat the Darkling. What they discover is surprising. The battle scene is full of twists, and will keep you guessing. I really liked how the beginning and the end of the book had "before" and "after" in third person, with the remaining book in Alina's first person POV.
review 2: Pretty satisfying end to the series. Just a few gripes to keep it from being a four star review. I think Bardugo had some trouble keeping the tone -- sometimes Alina's voice felt too contemporary and teenagery. Also sometimes I was just
... more tired of her ending sections or chapters with some kind of a dramatic statement about everything sucked. But I suppose that is part of the genre. Overall good pacing and interesting twists. I really liked the unexpected connection between Alina and the Darkling and the back story about him and his mom. That was a level of nuance you don't often see in YA. less
