review 1: Behind the Stars was a great surprise for me. I was intrigued by the short synopsis – kidnapped? Yes. I’m in! And then I’m reading along and I discover it’s got a little bit of a mystery going on. A little bit of a science fiction thriller going. Are these people good? bad? I’m just not quite sure. I didn’t look up anything beyond the synopsis when I signed up for t blitz, so I really had no idea.Prentiss Puckett was a pretty cool heroine. For starters, she’s strong. She’s got a lot of fight in her, and she’s got a great attitude (as in, I’m gonna kick butt and save the world) after she is abducted. But poor Prentiss also has a skewed view of her little world. She is surrounded on all sides by contradictions. Her family life is a mess. Her father beats... more her brother and drinks himself unconscious every night. Her boyfriend of many years seems to be her one and only savior, and yet… there is something not quite honorable about him either. And her boss, the town veterinarian whom she helps after school, seems to have complete faith in her intellect and abilities–even though Prentiss admits to herself, and others repeatedly throughout the book, that she’s “not that smart”.Prentiss is smart, though. And also naive in a way that protects her heart. Which is understandable, since she’s had a rough few years after her mother died. So she’s very sympathetic in my opinion. The setting was perfect. Hot summer days in a small farming community. I could almost taste that dust on the road. I could picture those farmers out there in the fields. Loved it. We get to learn a little bit about her and her and her relationship with Jackson, the one person she’s been able to count on since her mother died. They are best friends, and have plans to marry and start a life farming the Jackson’s family land.Until… she is abducted on her way to work one summer day. And this turns into the most frightening thing and the best thing that ever happened to Prentiss Puckett all at once. Not many people get a chance to prove what they are made of, but this town did. All on the dame day. And they all reacted differently. Some decided to fight back with weapons. Some decided to go along. Prentiss decided to take action. Not the kind that involves hurting people, but the kind that requires patience, understanding, and an open mind. Prentiss discovers – she is a LEADER. And her whole world changes.I can’t say anymore, but I was drawn into the story and didn’t want to put it down. I didn’t realize it was a boxed set of serials at first, but it is. So just FYI. This set is all six parts.I loved it and I will be looking for more from this author in the future. In fact, I shared the link with Leah, one of the girls who runs the NAA Facebook page last week after I finished reading and she bought the set too.Four and a half stars for Behind the Stars. Reviewed as part of the YA Bound blog tour.
review 2: If you haven't picked up the first installment of this serial release, I highly recommend you pick up the full series which released today! I've been a fan of Leigh Talbert Moore for a while now, and when I heard her next series would be adventurous and sci-fi based I knew I had to get my hands on it. I was not disappointed.Prentiss was a character that grew on me. I loved her constant questioning and her unfailing determination to save her friends. I thought I knew where the story was headed but there were several unexpected twists that I enjoyed a lot. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but needless to say, Prentiss definitely found her voice.I really enjoyed the world building, having only briefly driven through Mississippi as a child I don't have much familiarity with the area. Moore does a wonderful job not only creating the scenery but also the feel of a summer in south Mississippi. I could feel the sweat on my brow as she describes the kids working on the farm in the humid and hot summer air. This book was not what I expected at all and I think that's what I enjoyed most about it. I haven't read anything like it. The plot was always moving forward, even throughout the flashbacks, I could tell there was something coming. I enjoyed the bits of backstory that the flashbacks provided and it gave a real sense of Prentiss and what her life was like prior to being kidnapped. I do want to mention that while there is some action and sci-fi elements, most of the story revolves around relationships and how they can change and develop even in the most dire circumstances. If you're looking for an interesting story with some well built characters and a bit of action, this is the book for you. Leight Talbert Moore has done it again!*I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.* less

synopsis was left vague which left the story to be unexpected. Besides Pren, I love Flora.
