review 1: Fast read. A little confusing at first as the narrative bounces back and forth from Stalinist Russia to current day and a Ukrainian refugee who has been accused of murdering her ex-husband and fiancee. But the focus, at least my focus, is on little 8 year-old Katerina, asthmatic and mostly mute, daughter of the accused and now being cared for by Nina Borg. I absolutely loved BOY IN THE SUITCASE, totally missed the second installment but so lucky to have got the loan of this new one. Great thriller.
review 2: A very good read - Mother and daughter from Ukraine leave a frightening relationship in Kiev for Denmark, where terror (of course!) follows them. Nina Borg, the nurse we have met in other novels by this author, is in over her head, as usual. And in person
... moreal crisis, as usual. Forced, by the circumstances of this mother and daughter, to acknowledge the limits of what she can do for the immigrant families she cares for. As always, the political and sociological aspects of the story are of great interest to me. As is the looking back to Ukraniain/Russian life in the 1930's which is a large part of the story. less

An enjoyable example of modern Nordic noir. If you like that sort of thing, you'll enjoy this.

This series just gets better and better. I loved the plot twist! Can't wait for number four.

Loved the intertwining of the 2 stories. Can't wait to read earlier books in the series.
