review 1: Wow is all I can say. Stories/ interviews were fascinating and absorbing. Some were quirky, sorrowful and candid but all were brutally honest and sadly profound. The horrors that people have endured under the communist regime in China is horrifying and disgusting ( mass starvation, torture, wrongful imprisonment, cover ups, theft, caniblism, murder etc ) These are the interviews that were smuggled out of China that depict the strength of the human spirit. The author himself needs to have a book written about his amazing life.
review 2: Overall, it was an incredibly fascinating read, not to mention how challenging it is. Each interview is in such a radically different voice and the stories so dramatic, I found it difficult to read at long stretches because th
... moree voice changes every 20 or so pages. The stories themselves draw you in to the point that you can't help but get personally involved. I found this perusing a thrift store book collection with my wonderful man, and so very happy I did. These true stories aren't for the feint of heart, but when you experience it for yourself, it'll be worth it. less
