review 1: Awalnya, Buku ini terkesan berat. Semuanya berisi catatan Peliputan Mba Linda sebagai Jurnalis. Tapi sebetulnya buku ini sangat menarik untuk dibaca. Mba Linda terbiasa memakai kalimat yang luar biasa, setiap saya membaca tulisannya, di waktu - waktu yang serius ternyata disisipkan cletukan yang menggelitik seperti berfungsi untuk me-refresh otak saya.Saya sungguh penasaran bagaimana Mba Linda melakukan peliputan - peliputan tersebut. Mulai dari meliput Hikayat Kebo ( preman yang dibakar hidup - hidup ), sampai rasa penasaran saya ketika Mba Linda mengunjungi Pramodya Ananta T. Sayangnya saya sampai sekarang tidak menemukan buku pertama Mba Linda "Kuda Terbang Maria Pinto".Tapi saya agak heran kenapa Mba Linda juga perduli dengan Kehidupan Kaum pecinta sesama jenis ( LGBT ... more). Setau saya, di Buku Kuda Terbang Maria Pinto, Mba Linda membahas LGBT dalam "Lubang Hitam", Buku Dari Jawa Menutju Aceh pun demikian ( saya lupa judulnya ), dan terakhir Buku Rahasia Selma dalam "Mercusuar" ( kisah 2 orang lesbian dengan pertemuan pertama mereka ). Bahkan hingga detik ini saya mencari Cerpen "Lubang Hitam" tp tdk juga ketemu.Apapun alasan Mb Linda membahasnya, saya salut dengan Linda Christanty.
review 2: One of a few books that I care to finish once I start reading. The (real life) stories are compelling, the storytelling is more than adequate - it's Linda's strength, actually - though her writing style reminds me a lot to Ayu Utami. The book is actually a compilation of Linda's articles in various publications. The main theme is her personal experience, because they practically covers a lot of issues: from the 'wartawan bodrex' phenomenon, to Wiji Thukul (bless his soul), to the shariah law in Aceh, all written in blunt words. Linda doesn't even try to create nicknames or initials of the journalists whose stories has been chosen as examples of the "envelope phenomenon". I'm not a journalist, so I can't comment on any etiquette matter here. I suppose the subjects have been notified about this in advance.One story, "Batalion Terakhir", grab my attention for the way Linda describes her encounter with a group of (low rank) army officers. Given her political background, one will expect a picture of harsh brats. On the contrary, the military people were portrayed from a sympathetic angle. Despite a few disturbing things, I must say the book is inspiring. less
