review 1: Linda Olsson writes with an elegance reminiscent of Scandinavian furnishings... Clean lines, minimal frills, solid foundation. Do not read this novel if you need an action-driven story.... Most of this book dwells on the emotional responses to off-stage action, described with incredible poignancy and grace. I found myself a bit confused with the end chapters which include a shifted point-of-view. Otherwise, lovely.
review 2: It is odd to be sitting on this side of the fence; I am usually one who finds too much detail in a novel to be overbearing. In Linda Olsson's Sonata for Miriam, I was grasping for straws...searching for more detail....anything to hold on to... and I was seriously let down. Adam, the main character of this book, is sifting through the sil... moreence of his past to learn who he is, what brought him to where he is today, and through all of this, coping with the loss of his only daughter. I so desperately wanted to connect with him on so many levels. It was impossible - I found myself unable to relate to anything he was saying, and was unable to really feel an emotional connection. less
