review 1: A sweet little read, nothing surprising, but you don't really expect that anyway reading the blurb. The writing style is nice and fluid, easy to read and overall very pleasant. I'm a big fan of kids in m/m stories and that was well done here! I loved the Luke-Reggie interactions, since I like it when a six-year old actually talks like a kid and not a small adult. If you're looking for something short and sweet and christmassy, this is a good choice.
review 2: 3.0 StarsLuke Fisher has been a single parent for six years. While he is lonely and would like to find that special someone, he tries to convince himself that he has everything he needs: a beautiful son (Reggie), a good job as an ad exec, and a supportive family. Then one night, he's out with some friends
... moreand meets Jamie in a bar. The strong and mutual attraction is evident from the start and, against his better judgement, Luke goes home with him. If it's one thing Luke has become painfully aware of it's that the moment he reveals he has a kid, he has historically become less dateable. In a pathetic hope to pre-empt the expected heartache and rejection, Luke throws away Jamie's number, thinking he will never see him again. But fate has something else in store for him and Luke soon realizes that Mr. Popsalos is about to change his life ... for the better.I liked this Christmas short. Reggie is so adorable and I enjoyed reading about his home and school life. While I loved Jamie, Luke IMHO was okay. I got that he was trying to pre-empt what he believed to be inevitable rejection but writing Jamie off was just mean. And, I didn't feel that Luke ever regretted it nor did he apologize to Jamie. But the HFN ending had me wanting more so I was grateful the sequel was already out!Bottom line: a cute Christmas short about a single Dad finding love, despite stupidly throwing it away at first.Re-Read on 12/13/13: Just as cute as the first time around. less
