review 1: The only reason I kept going with this book was because the world was interesting. Everything else was "eh." The characters aren't developed at all and the writing style is just ok. The ending seems to be hurled at you, like the writer just didn't want to take any more time so she just threw the last bit together. The idea is creative and had potential, but was ruined by the meager writing style and rushed resolution. (haha rushed resolution that sounds cool)
review 2: Hunger Games reminiscent without the dependability of two other novels for support and continuation. I really enjoyed the incorporation of the history of the dystopian-gladiator-fighting element that Ms. Haines deftly wove into the story: she provides background for the readers without disrupting
... more the storyline and explains actions and motives in that society without giving too much potentially dry information. I found Lyn's character more likable than Katniss, for my part. Not a perfect heroine, but not so self-consumed and bitter as Katniss. Although, I must warn any who may read this book that the title, while attention-getting, is misleading. If you expect this to be about a girl gladiator, you won't find her til the end. less
