review 1: Ugh. This book drrraaaaagggggeeeeddd on forever. It was recommended to me and I was excited to read it. But I had such a hard time getting through it. I looked at other reviews and most people said you have to get halfway through it when it picks up. Then I read that it is a retelling of the Biblical story of Ruth so I knew where it was going. I'm sorry, I love the story of Ruth but I couldn't keep reading hoping for it to get better. I gave up reading early on. Take that how you will.

I knew there was a second book, but didn't realize that this 450 page book only encompassed the first 18 verses of chapter one of the book of Ruth. My biggest complaint was the pacing. It was kind of slow for me, but I made it through - lots of short chapters made it easy to pick up several times during the day. Having said that, it did deal with some serious issues (adultery, violence, etc.) without being vulgar or gratuitous and I really appreciated that. less

I could not get into this book. I read to page 100 and still could not get excited about it.
