review 1: Overall this book left a significant impression on me, and perfect for this time of the year in the days leading up to Christmas. It was a quick read, but no less impactful, and I loved the examination of Elizabeth and Mary and how their stories were just as significant (although not as much as Christ's, of course). My only criticism is that there was only one chapter devoted to Anna, so I'm not sure you could say this book was equally about the three women, and there were also pages looking at various men, such as the shepherds visiting the Christ child, the wise men, Joseph, Zechariah, and Simeon. Not that I don't appreciate this, but as this book was supposed to be about the "women of Christmas", I felt that all of the extra info about the men, while interesting, didn't... more fit the subject/title entirely (perhaps a change of title? More info on the women and another book about the men?) However, it was still a good Advent read.
review 2: While there was really nothing "new" in this book, it did motivate me to ponder the essential roles of Elizabeth, Mary and Anna during this Christmas season. It is difficult at best to "surmise" what these strong women may have been thinking and feeling. That part didn't work for me in the book. The accumulated historical views were worth revisiting. It was worth my time...mainly because of the thoughts it generated. Mentally I visualize Mary as a very young adolescent girl, but I have not pictured her as a young mother raising Jesus when she was not more than a child herself. I honor all three of these women and their roles. less

Good book-would like to re-read closer to Christmas and use it as an in-depth Bible study.
