review 1: This book was brutally real and honest and it drew me in instantly. I was deeply touched by the vulnerability of the main characters, both of which were dealing with some pretty heavy stuff. ... morepletely irrational, I feel like new events have happened in their lives since time has passed in mine, and I'm wondering how things are going for them!!)Teachers out there, I know you'll relate to this. During Kel's narratives, I kept thinking about how many Kels there are in our classrooms...kids that WANT to be in school--even right after personal tragedy--because it is the place of safety, normalcy, consistency, and some happiness. Even when they are acting up, even when things are obviously wrong, they choose to get to school. It's given me an extra bubble of patience these last few weeks. I may never know who the Kels are, but they are surely in my room. less
