review 1: I thought the language used in the first quarter of the book choppy and discordant, but, thankfully, things improved dramatically after that. If it were not for that, it would have been a 5-star book. I especially liked Lorraine Heath's mastery in describing the heartache and longing felt by the hero and heroine. It was so stirring that my heart soared, dipped, and then soared again as the leads first found each other, heartache and then finally a bittersweet happiness. Bravo Ms Heath!
review 2: 3.5 starsThis was a very pleasant surprise, especially after I had mixed feelings about the previous book in the series. Two likable and engaging main characters with sizzling chemistry, a fast-moving plot, and a sensitive and thoughtful treatment of the issue of infid
... moreelity all make for a solid and satisfying read. After a night of debauchery, Ransom Seymour, the Duke of Ainsley, and his cousin Walfort were in a carriage accident. Ainsley walked away with nothing more than a scar but Walfort lost the use of his legs, and his ability to have children. Years later, Walfort has a proposition: that Ainsley get his wife Jayne with child. What could possibly go wrong? Even when she's glaring at him across the table, Jayne and Ainsley's connection is evident and they are the kind of couple that's well suited on both an emotional and an physical level. The reader almost instantly wants them to get together, but is still aware of the issue of infidelity. The book never shies away from the repercussions of being unfaithful and, loathsome as Walfort sometimes is, it's still possible to understand why Jayne loves him. The plot moves quickly and always remains compelling, and the happy ending is completely satisfying. It's obviously not the deepest of reads, but it's a lot of fun and packs a surprisingly emotional punch. Recommended. less

What a bunch of dull, self-absorbed, unlikeable characters. Ugh.
