review 1: What a great story! Jim Swindler is a Scotland Yard Investigator and was on a case of protecting a Lord from a woman he was trailing. Eleanor was a woman he found himself instantly attracted to her and put him in a dilemma of his personal and professional life mixing. This story had a few twists in it and the reason for his father's hanging is revealed. Now everything made sense to why he does what he does and continues to strive for excellence. What an interesting case he uncovered too. Love the writing and plot and thank goodness it was a happy ending for everyone.
review 2: "Midnight Pleasures With a Scoundrel" follows Jim Swindler of Feagan's lads. After having been gently refused by his childhood friend Frannie, I was happy to see that he found a worthy co
... moreunterpart who is his perfect mirror is his own story.Miss Watkins is on a quest to avenge her dead sister who killed herself following a nightmarish experience at the hands of a certain lord of London. Fully prepared to deliver justice, she ends up falling for Inspector Swindler, who was tasked by Scotland Yard to keep her away from said lord. She knows his identity and he knows her mission, but they both continue to keep each other in the dark as their relationship deepens. The game of cat-and-mouse was at times frustrating, but the reader really gets involved in all the sleuthing! Not one for detective stories myself, I must highly praise the author's writing as the mystery unfolds. Little clues are left for the reader to piece together the truth alongside the characters of the story. Although I pride myself on being able to guess where the plot would lead, I ended up being blindsided - twice! - as the revenge plot unfolds and the ensuing scramble begins. The resolution felt like a cop-out (just a little), but I really liked how all of Feagan's children came together once again to help Jim achieve his Happily Ever After.Although his backstory is heart-breaking, I felt that he found a true soulmate who harbors similar feelings of guilt and remorse - someone that can understand his endless grieving of a loved one. Sir David and a not-so-secret visit from Her Majesty were just cherries on top of a great story that contained so many likeable heroes and heroines that you can't help but root for. If all historical romance authors could work mystery and intrigue into the genre with as much skill as Lorraine Heath, I would definitely look for more! less

I know I would love this book because it's mystery such as the mirror trick and romance among it.
