review 1: I received a copy of this book for an honest opinion Lou has a great ability to write books keep you wanting one more chapter. This book is about Denton Mills who has the ability to see dead peoples last moments and Bran Maurell, herbalist and witch.Its written as short novellas in one book. Denton was mentioned in Spirit Sanguine, but you don't have to have read that for this story. Although if you can I think you should, its a great book and you get a taste of the paranormal world Lou has built.Bran is not good with meeting people and has secrets, Denton is very attracted to Bran and with his abilities to see ghosts and vampires and is not put off Brans antisocial personality. Their relationship grows and Bran teaches Denton how to better utilize his skills and ooo... moreo you get to know Brans secrets.This is a fun read and I am so happy to see that other books are available in the series.
review 2: 3.5-4 starsI received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Well, this was fun! Very sweet and light and not what I expected at all, but very enjoyable.Denton sees dead people, or he sees the remnants of recent deaths. When he moved into a new apartment he encounters his yummy neighbour Bran, who turns out to be a herbalist and witch. The two join forces to help out the restless spirits of Chigaco.The book reads like a collection of short novellas, don't know if they were orginially several shorts? But it flows together nicely. The banter between the two is fun and light and had me chuckling several times. Actually everything is fun and light, in spite of the fact that they deal with some hard topics surrounding death and spirits with unfinished business. But it never gets heavy or scary, its just light enjoyable fun...I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun light read for a rainy day. Its short and easily read, the writing flows nicely and you are pulled into the world immediately. I will be getting the second in the series, as well as the original book of Harpers where Denton first appears as a side character. less
