review 1: I have just finished reading this book and it is the last of the four books that Louise has written and that I have read. It is also possibly my favourite in part because the main male character has the same job that I have, a surveyor. As with all of Louise's books the characters are beautifully described demanding both sympathy for some, love for others and dislike in some cases. You will love Fen and dislike Belle. The story has a real twist in Fen's life and explains her insecurity. Sean is a bit of a slob but a real caring and well meaning slob at that. I now feel slightly empty having finished it as I know I will have to wait sometime before Louise publishes her next book. Will be worth the wait though.
review 2: This novel has a fairly simple plot - a ma
... moren thrown out by his wife who is having an affair falls in love with the woman at whose house he rents a room; her life is blighted by a dark secret from her youth. Both have difficulty expressing feelings. The characterisation is superb, the dialogue often subtly understated, and the prose style very good, with some beautiful but not overwritten short descriptive passages. I really enjoyed it. less

I read the first 6 chapters and gave up. Either I'm to impatient or the storyline is slow.
