review 1: This really ticked all the boxes of a fun Georgian romance for me - light and fluffy, the perfect holiday read. But it went a little further than your standard formulaic romance. The author cleverly introduced some historical elements into the plot that nicely added to the atmosphere, and her little extra details such as descriptions of their fashions entertained me. The characters are well drawn and appealing - even the nasty ones - and it was fun to follow their adventures. I believe that there are more stories in the series, but this can be happily read as a stand alone. The fact that the basic premise - the actual 'Midnight Marriage' - is apparently based on fact is an added bonus.
review 2: I love historical romance novels, but I have to say that this... more one was kind of too ridiculous to be considered as a good book. The book starts on the premises that a teenage girl is forced to secretly get married to another teenager at midnight. But on the next chapter she is already an adult and doesn't remember anything about that midnight marriage. Unbelievable.I also had troubles with the characters. I had a hard time trying to like them. So I didn't. The main characters are too annoying: Deb is too overdramatic sometimes, and Julian is simply anything I don't like in a man. Their actions were also kind of historically inaccurate; women going around with men without a chaperone? Unlikely to happen. And the incongruities go on and on. I won't say more in order to avoid spoilers.I was also shocked to find typos. It took me forever to finish the book, so I don't think I will read more books belonging to this series. less
