review 1: Reading this book is the equivalent of watching an engrossing movie, enjoying the storyline and plot (even if it is somewhat predictable, it's comfortable, like a cheesy Hallmark movie), and then right when you think there is a big pivotal confrontational scene coming up, the movie flashes forward a year and everything is happy dorry with nary a mention of ANYTHING you really want to know! It is incredibly disappointing, and you are left with SO MANY QUESTIONS. Not even the usual 'oh what happens in the future' questions, but the immediate 'how did that first pivotal conversation go after the big reveal?' and 'but .. what about this guy's love interest you bring up to never address again?'. Ugh. So annoying.

... mores book drew me in and I had to read it cover to cover. Based on The Resistance in England and France during WWII, the characters were interesting to follow. I would read another book written by this author. She has a lovely way of writing, spinning the story and tying up the details. The story takes place in Paris, a village in the South of France and in an old drafty estate home in the village in York, outside of London. less
