review 1: I have never read a book about opera and the performing arts before and I started this book yesterday and finished it today, as I loved the story line so much that I found it hard to put it down. The story is about a shy girl from a council estate in Stourbridge, who loves to sing opera in her wardrobe, where she feels safe. She has a strange relationship with her family, because they have problems showing their affection or emotions and when she needed them the most, they were not there for her. As always this story contains an array of characters and it shows you that things are not always what they seem. The story tells you how Sally overcomes her fears, finds love and mends bridges with her family. The book is very well written and a lovely love story. I would highly... more recommend this book to people to read.
review 2: unusual setting for a book - in the world of opera. The unfinished symphony focuses on a girl who is scared to sing in public and can only sing sitting in her wardrobe. She takes on a job working as a wardrobe mistress but her heart is in singing. The story weaves around her and her cousin who dies, and the fall out afterwards plus the romances along the way. Cleverly done jumping back and forth in time, a real page turner! less
