review 1: This book gets great reviews on Amazon. Maybe this built it up too much for me.This is a post-apocalyptic zombie adventure story. Ok, so I shouldn't have been expecting great literature, right? But I was hoping for solid logic and the "realistic" expectations of the world after a zombie apocalypse, which have been pretty well mapped out by other work. But somehow this book doesn't have those. In this world 6 people can comfortably survive 11 days on the snacks available in a bookshop. And a female bookshop clerk can learn how to wield an axe to instantly be able to kill zombies with a single blow, every time. And people living in a post-apocalyptic community have time (and a need) to go and work out in a gym for hours every day. And waste ammunition on target practice day ... moreafter day.And in this book men in a post-apocalyptic world would rather die than have sex with a group of women. This is zombie chick-lit. World War Z it ain't. It isn't anywhere near as good as day-by-day apocalypse, which is written in the same 'blog' style. It is too nice for a zombie book. They even save the dog every time they come into conflict with people or zombies. But is it any good? Well, the plot isn't bad and the adventure moves along at a fair pace. There are some hard-core zombie bits, if the horror detail is skimmed over. But the main character is a little too irrational and annoying for me. And the fact that her laptop survives intact, keeps getting charged and can connect to a magical 'military' wireless keeps the unlikely diary aspect of the story mechanism going in a just too unbelievable way. There are some very dark insights in the responses some people make to her blog posts, often the best bits of the book.
review 2: Just like Feed by Mira Grant this is told via internet blogs and just like Feed it works. I thought that this way of telling a story wouldnt work but it does it gives you the feeling of actually being part of Allison's journey. Such a good book, however just didnt seem plausable that she would of be able to keep charging her own laptop maybe Allison was right she may have 'bought the only magical laptop in the store' Keep them comming less
