review 1: This was a pleasant read. I’d never read any of Margaret Mallory’s works prior to this, but these historical romances are kind of a guilty pleasure read of mine. This book lived up to all my previous guilty pleasure reads and even surpassed a few. I’ll admit there were times I found Catherine and William a bit annoying and the turns in the story a tad played, but overall I enjoyed this book a lot. I’ll probably venture to read more of Mallory’s work in the future.
review 2: I think this is Ms. Mallory's first novel. It is good, it is not great. I have loved her "Return of the Highlanders" series so I know she's become a better writer.I got tired of William questioning Catherine's loyalty. One cannot love and not trust. He comes across as in lo... moreve with her beauty instead of her person. The ending was a bit abrupt.Overall, I really liked it. The secondary characters added a lot. Stephen, William's brother, was especially memorable. less
