review 1: I really enjoyed this series, but I find it odd that I enjoyed the middle two books more than the first & last installments. The ending left a lot unsaid/unresolved and the H/h dynamic was entertaining just not as interesting as their situation could have played out. No drama between Duncan & Connor over Ilysa? Nothing more intriguing could have happened between the MacLeod & Ilysa/Connor? It just seems like this last installment could have ended the series on a much more entertaining note...still a good series overall.
review 2: I looked forward to this book the most as I read the preceding three in the series, expecting Connor to be the most interesting of the four heroes. Though I enjoyed the story, I was disappointed in Connor and much more drawn to Ilysa. ... moreYes, Connor is a valiant warrior, but I just never felt like I was as much inside his character as I did with his three friends as portrayed in the earlier books. Ilysa's character was wonderful, with the right combination of courage, pluck and smarts that I like in a heroine. I am left wishing for at least one more book, featuring Niall. less
