review 1: I absolutely loved Margaret Mallory's Return of the Highlanders series, but I really couldn't get into this one.I thought it unfair that William always seemed to be the one apologizing when to my mind, Catherine was a twit and was just as responsible for any misunderstandings as he was. She was just as guilty for not trusting as he was, yet somehow he is always made to be the one at fault. I don't recall her ever apologizing either. Miss 'I'm so perfect'. I honestly never get the feeling that she truly loves him but is instead just going through the motions. Kinda felt sorry for him being married to her and her stiff upper lip.
review 2: A reaction to a book is always somewhere in the nebulous space between the book and the reader. Sometimes it's a little more
... moreon the book-end of things and sometimes a little more on the reader-end of things. This was on the reader end. The book focuses a lot on trust issues (interesting) and turns that focus on jealousy. I hate jealous heroes. I probably shouldn't have finished the book, but I'm always a little embarrassed when I don't finish book club books. For thoughts on the writing, characters, etc, look at those other (more positive) reviews. Those reactions are more on the book-end of that nebulous space. less
