review 1: Enjoyed the exceptionally creative, sweet, yet infuriating mother. I think someone should illustrate a children's book based on her stories. The daughter's transformations of thought process and feelings were well done (childhood shifts and adult shifts). Brought to mind personal thought/feeling shifts where something or someone is viewed entirely different than originally experienced. Also a nice, clean read, despite brief references to unsavory happenings.
review 2: Big Fish is a favorite of mine and I was interested in this book because the storyline reminded me of Big Fish. There's a girl (she's 21) whose mother has spent her entire life lying/elaborating the story of her life. When the girl's mom gets very sick and she is aware her mother is dying, she
... morewants to spend every moment with her and she wants to get to the bottom of her mother's stories. There's a huge level of guilt involved because she knows her mother clings to these stories, but she can't bring herself to lose any chance of knowing her own stories when she loses her mom.I found one character almost completely unlike able (Mark) and one so likeable that he's practically a guardian angel (Ewan). less
