review 1: I was lucky enough to receive this in a Good Reads lottery. This scifi story takes place in a future Australia, where much of nature no longer exists. I loved the strong female Ranger who is trying to untangle a mysterious murder in the nature reserve she is tasked with protecting. Somehow, the murder is tied to the death of her father years ago, which she also suspects was a murder, but couldn't prove. Lots of action, and unexpected plot developments. I may have found a new author to voraciously read through and am anxious to find out what happens to this character next.
review 2: I have yet to read a novel published by angry robot which I don't enjoy, and Marianne de Pierre's PEACEMAKER does not disappoint. The worldbuilding offers an interesting "take" ... moreon the conventional western, and the plot is complex enough to be quite enjoyable. I gave this book four, rather than five, stars because the protagonist became somewhat tiresome after a while, crossing that fine line between gutsy independence and stubborn close-mindedness. I look forward to the second installment in this series. less
