review 1: Perhaps I've expected too much from this book or it isn't just my type of book because I was extremely disappointed after reading it. I almost didn't finish it and I actually had to skipped a few pages. I liked the main characters here but there are tons of factors that totally turned me off. These are some of my concerns about the story:1. Religion stuff overload. (the whole homosexuality and the Mormon's stand was just too excessive for me.) Usually, I don't mind a book with a religious undertone but this one just got on my nerves too much and I feel like getting indoctrined myself (no offense meant). Arrrggghhh so frustrating! 2. Ruth. Like seriously, she's the most annoying secondary character ever! 3. There's too much medical terms.I feel that the book tried so hard ... moreto convey so many reasoning regarding homosexuality and religion but it turns out flat. Perhaps, it's just me since it actually has a very good rating on some review sites. But hey, to each his own :) Peace out!Rating: 1 out of 5 stars
review 2: I started this with low expectations, I've read Sexton before and while I've liked her work it's not stood out and has felt over long. This meant that this book was a pleasant surprise.Initially it wasn't for me; I wasn't sure Levi'd be a character I could relate to in terms of a romance novel. The pace felt a little rushed and the sentences too wordy, I had the feeling it was going to be a DNF. But, then I got sucked in. Sweet damaged Jaime, there's reference to his past but the story shows his healing, there's not the heavy oppressive feel this sort of hurt/comfort plot can have. What we have instead is a very slow sweet love story. A poignant sense of safety, innocence and attraction. In some ways Jaime needs Levi's family as much as he needs Levi.Levi changes, or more accurately he accepts who he is; because there are a lot of clues to suggest he's still the good Mormon boy at heart. To my mind Levi is hurt by his family and his life style was all about rebellion (not to say he didn't mightily enjoy that rebellion at the time) his story is tempering his behaviour to embrace his family without changing himself (ie still gay). Behind the living in the moment lifestyle he was always the family boy deep down. There's a lot of religion in the book. What I know of Mormon's LDS beliefs can go on the back of a postage stamp. It can be heavy at times and wont be to everyone's taste, but I liked how it was done. Levi's family confabs are very oppressive and yet you can see they genuinely love him, understanding isn't always complicit in love. It says a lot that Levi stays in touch with them and never lost himself to his club lifestyle. The book looks at LDS kindly, there was great appeal to the family/community even while despairing at how they looked at Levi's gay sin. They never turn away from him. It's shown that nothing is ever a black/white issue and acceptance is a gradual process. Everyone in this story has their human flaws.Towards the end when they come to Christmas I felt chapters were getting summarised, pacing was off. Remarkable all they were able to arrange between Christmas and New Year! I skimmed the long prayer it was way too much, in fact the ending was the very definition of schmaltzy.Book could do with a better editor because I noticed several incidents of typos with wrong word choices and tense such as they/their or he/him errors. I recommend it to anyone fancying a long slow story with a sweet romance. Its not perfect but it left me with a good feeling, I enjoyed it. less

I ended up skimming at the end. The religion angle was starting to get on my nerves...

So many high reviews. Sadly I didn't feel the same.

A little to preachy for me. But a decent story.
