review 1: More gripping and entertaining alternate history hi-jinks, which I enjoyed every bit as much as the previous two. I was expecting a clear resolution at the end of this one, but the author kept me guessing to the last page and now I don't know whether to expect another book in the series or not - nor whether I'd welcome another. Felt like a natural conclusion to the story. Still a rip-snorting good read though, and Hodder has so much fun with his characters that you can't help but be carried along.
review 2: Another satisfying volume from Mr. Hodder. I'm amazed at how readable and entertaining the Burton and Swinbourne books have been. I dare say Hodder has created one of the most enjoyable worlds I've ever visited. He goes on the list of authors I'll implicit
... morely trust; I'm willing to just sit back and enjoy the ride and see where I end up. If you're interested in a steampunk feel that extrapolates from events in our own history woven more from a science fiction take than pure fantasy, then give this stuff a try! There's a reason he won the Phillip K. Dick Award. less

Definitely the weakest in the series so far. Readable, but not as good as the other 3.

Brilliant, but you have to have read the previous two Burton and Swinburne books.
