review 1: I didn't care for this short story (really short) set in the world of Mark Lawrence's broken empire. I won't go into detail with this as it was a short story, I just found the scenario offering nothing much in terms of character building and the story was just more of the same stuff we saw in the first book. The only positive thing about it was the world building as what happened and where they were was somewhat interesting. If you are a completionist like me you will read this short, but if you enjoy the the Broken Empire series and you think that this is essential, it's not. Don't read this unless you are mental like me.Onward to the next book!
review 2: This wasn't a bad short story, but wasn't really great either. On page 1, Lawrence says he wanted to write
... more a short story that could be read without reading the other Broken Empire books. I feel like if I didn't have any knowledge of who and what Jorg is (and the nuban), this story would have fallen even flatter. I do think it sheds a little bit more light on the builders - especially the section where the rain slows down...but this also seemed like it was just made up for this story - and doesn't seem to hold weight in the first 2 Broken Empire books. All in all, I'm glad I read it, and would read anything with Jorg in it. He is one of the best characters in the history of fantasy literature. less

Jorg being Jorg! Quick, dark, brutal. Mark manages to work his magic even with fewer words.
