review 1: Pretty good comic. Somehow, I don't think it is groundbreaking or anything like that, but without a doubt, it's pretty good.I think I like the movie version of Big Daddy much more than the comic book one. I also think that the movie did a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the original comic (if you mess with the bad guys, you are going to get hurt and possibly killed in the "real" world).Overall, recommended if you like comic books and violence :D
review 2: I haven't rolled my eyes so many times at a single comic before in my whole life.Kick Ass is the very definition of tryhard. I'm an absolute gore-hound, I don't shy away from schlock and I don't mind 'shocking' elements in my fiction, but if you looked up 'trying too hard' in Websters you'd see the
... more exact panel where teen protagonist Chris was having his testicles electrocuted with a jumper cable. I'm biased though, I never cared for Millar's writing. Not before and definitely not now. If you took MM's name off the front I would've sworn an edgy teenager wrote this. I expect this comic to be adored by edgy 13 year olds that cuss when the teachers aren't around, aging comic fans that want to remind the kids that they're still cool and contemporary and hardcore shippers that feed off the not-so-subtle homoerotic subtext between Red Mist and Kick-Ass. less
