review 1: Mark Tufo, author of the smash Zombie Fallout series, has an offering that places his sarcastic and edgy Mike Talbot character in yet another alternate universe. So, maybe zombies are not your thing...but what about aliens bent on world domination?!Take a plunge. This series has Talbot scooped up with several thousand concert goers at Red Rocks. What happens next is a brutal battle to the death where only one may stand as the Champion of the Earth. All of the characters you are familiar with (if you have read the other Talbot tales) are here. Once again, Durgan is the foil. (What did this guy do to Mark in real life? He is the Tufo version of South Park's Kenny.)Book one of the trilogy gives good closure while obviously leading to another adventure. (Indian Hill is a tril... moreogy.)
review 2: Any Mark Tufo fan who is familiar with Michael Talbot expect an adventure of a lifetime. The beginning is slow but being familiar with Mr. Tufo's writing I knew sticking it out would be worth my while. And I was right! Michael Talbot in any parallel universe is an ordinary person that is thrust into extraordinary circumstances. In this case, we get a glimpse of him when he was a teenager, roughly between the ages of 14 and 18. His friends, Paul and Dennis are found in the book as well as is Beth, Durgan and maybe one or two characters that are found in ZF series, Spirit Clearing and Callis Rose. Which is okay with me because they bring the familiar to the entire story line. I'm sure this is written before ZF series. But he is true to form in writing in the first person narrative.. Michael Talbot has found himself in a situation that he cannot talk his smart ass way out of and although his sarcasm does come through his captors don't understand it. How quickly the civilized veneer disappears is very hard to read, that it happens is not surprising and Mr. Tufo does an excellent job of depicting the decline in humanity for the sake of survival. It is plausible and horrible and so discouraging to read about. But it is a tale of survival and Michael Talbot does what is necessary to survive and to protect those that have come under his umbrella. The question of what will happen to his soul, his very humanity if he must digress to such a beastly level just to survive at any cost like so many of his fellow human captives have done is answered in typical Michael Talbot fashion, one that the reader will need by the end of the beginning of this trilogy. Looking forward to reading the next 2 installments. Thank you Mr. Tufo for such a wonderful time. less
