review 1: A great fantasy book that builds The Dwarves saga's foundation.I think it's remarkable, I really had a blast! Although some plot points are really obvious right from the start. But the energy keep flowing even in the boring parts.I liked the characters ,the history, the world, the races, the diverstiy, the turn of events the deep amount of passion invested in the book. I like the story in spite its similarity to Lord of The Rings.If you like a great fantasy epic, it's definetly for you, don't miss it!
review 2: I was initially thrilled by the idea of a book all about dwarves. Then I discovered that I was easily bored by another book with beer-drinking, axe-wielding dwarves. And aloof, forest-dwelling elves. And a quest to save the realm from a shadowy evil.It r... moreead like an account of a good role playing game but there wasn't enough original stuff in here to keep me interested. Also, the writing was a bit dry and awkward but that might be blamed on the translator.Finally, the insistence on calling days orbits and years cycles (while weeks remain weeks) was just distracting and weird. less

This would have been an OK book for me 25 years ago when I was reading Dungeon and Dragons novels. However my tastes have expanded to the point where things like a solid plot or character development now matters to me and there isn't much of either in this book.Aside from that this is a standard fantasy rip off novels with Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Ogres, Trolls, evil wizards and so on...I strongly suggest you pass on this book, there are hundred of better fantasy novels...

I picked this up mostly because of my strong affinity for dwarves. However, I was unable to finish the book and not for a lack of trying. The world building kept me intrigued, but the endless fantasy cliches ended up killing the book for me. I realize that the original text is in German, but the English came off as sort of juvenile. That being said I would still recommend this to a younger person who is just starting to get into fantasy.
