review 1: I received this book from the author in exchange for the promise of a review. I finished this book a while back and am just now getting yo the review - sorry it took so long!I was immediately involved with the story line. Ms. Lacombe has a very conversational way of writing which makes for a fast read. I liked both of the main characters, and I do know women like Brooke who care more about possessions than people. And Frank, who is too proud to let anyone know he needs help. I enjoyed watching Brooke come to care more and more for Frank even though she didn't want to get involved. My one criticism for the book stems from Brooke's response at the very beginning of the book. You get the impression that she never cared for Frank but that myth is dispelled later in the book. ... moreIt's like the emotions at the beginning of the book don't match the emotions at the end. Overall I did enjoy this book and would definitely recommend it.
review 2: I read a couple reviews that weren't very good and I was determined not to let that influence me as I read this book! (I should note the author sent me a galley copy to read and review - I am not paid for this review - just got the book for free). I can honestly say I loved the book. When the book started, I thought Brooke was a "witch" for lack of a better term, but as the book progressed, I really grew to love Brooke and what she did for Frank while alive and after death. Too often our senior citizens are left to die in nursing homes and other places, with nary a thought given to them ...out of sight, out of mind so to speak. But Brooke stepped up to the plate and took on this gentleman and did it out of the kindness of her heart. I think one really needs to read this book for themselves - it's eye opening to what is going on in our society today. less
