review 1: I first picked up these books not only because of the para-normalcy of them but the fact they take place in Savannah Georgia. So we begin in 1952.. a young girl being burned and I immediately think ..Witch!! But lets continue on… shall we.This was interesting story and well written to the point of me being so glued to the book.. I didn’t want to put it down last night to sleep.I was wondering about Dent… the others tell us he is a outcast Angel … and then later you reveled the knowledge that he was actually O’Malley… wowEverthing was moving along.. I just knew it was all gonna come out in the wash to be Sammi-Rose.. but then you take us all the way to the last chapter.. to revel it wasHaydee .. not dead.. she is pretending to be Justine.. or acting.. yea that wa... mores the biggest role of her life. She was pregnant by not Alexander but the commissioner and wants to fake her death to give commissioner and his wife her child.. WHAT??and when Bree uses a whole freaking chapter talking with the Angels… explaining *shakes head*… then gets up and goes to the cemetery to talk with Justine// I mean Haydee .. which is looking down at her grave that holds another innocent that the commissioner killed to pretend it was her.. and Alexander burned the body so NO one could prove it wasn’t her.WHAT?? do you see how crazy this is… and the child.. Haydee & commissioners child. He is the one that comes along and kills Florida Smith…. and get this.. Earlier – when Bree went to the room.. she see’s Justine/Haydee sitting on the couch and Justine/Haydee is the one to tell Bree.. if you want to know who killed Flurry.. look right here at my baby boy. Really??all that.. and she turned her own baby in for murder.. she ratted him out. I don’t get it.. what was this whole point? This was screwed up.. I am disappointed in it so much I don’t believe I will read the next one.Too many books out there to read to waste my time on a crappy plot like this
review 2: Bree and EB receive a visit from elderly actress Justine Coville, who says that she'd like to update her will. But before she leaves, she admits that she thinks that someone is trying to injure her on the set of Bitter Tide, a movie being made about Savannah's infamous 1950s B-actress Haydee Quinn.Justine is playing the role of Consuelo Bulloch, and is using one of Consuelo's brooches to help her feel a connection to the character. But when Bree touches the brooch, she senses that Consuelo wants her help. Not sure what she can do to help either of them, Bree takes both cases, and soon discovers that they have even more in common than she'd first thought. The concept that when Bree takes over her late Uncle Franklin's law practice, she also accepts proprietorship of his celestial business of defending condemned souls is unique. Stanton has created two believable, intertwined worlds which feel fresh and intriguing after four books, and leave the reader wanting to know more.*FTC Full Disclosure: Many thanks to the publisher, who sent me a copy of the book for review purposes. less
