review 1: The character development in this book is what drew me to stay, page after page. I found it a very engrossing, well written story from the very beginning. Twenty-five years ago I spent a week on Pawleys Island and so I understood how these women fell in love with it. Their brief moment in time together during great personal upheavals led them to forge a stronger bond than either woman could have ever expected.
review 2: A new author and will look for more books. It takes place on Pawley's Island which always interests me like the Dorothea Benton Frank books. Joanna seems to have a perfect life except she faces a "mid-life crisis". She leaves her hardworking husband to drive somewhere, anywhere south and ends up on the coast. She finds a job as a caregive
... morer to Grace who is terminally ill. Initially, Joanna doesn't have a real committment to Grace and seeks to socialize w/ the locals. The problem w/ mid-life crisis is that they usually involve an adulturous relationship and predictably, so does Joanna. How couples overcome this violation of trust confuses me and I don't understand the dynamics between a husband and wife who have faced this hurdle. less
