review 1: Naruto vol. 56 Summary: Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief. He's got a wild sense of humor, but Naruto is completely serious about his mission to be the world's greatest ninja!TEAM ASUMA REUNITEDNaruto and the Allied Shinobi Forces battle Kabuto's hordes of reanimated ninja soldiers. in the process, they come face-to-face with old friends brought back from the dead... plus enemies and weapons more fearsome than any they could have imagined!MY OPINIONThe battle with the reanimated ninja has only just begun. As the fighting continues, three young ninja are faced with the hardship of having to fight the man who taught them. There are many familiar faces among the reanimated ninja - Hanzo former leader of the land of Rain, Dan the love of Lady Ts... moreunade's life, Granny Chiyo of the Hidden Sand Village. And Asuma Sarutobi. As Choji struggles with fighting his former sensei, naruto begins to suspect something more is going on and tries to leave the island only to be stopped by Iruka.Quote: "Sooo... I sensed Nina Tails chakra, earlier, ya know? But I'm the only one that has it, right?"
review 2: I really wanted to like this one more than I did. There are a lot of different storylines going in this one. (Naruto himself doesn't even enter the picture until the very end of the book.) The story I was most interested in was the face-off between Asuma and Team Ten. Asuma's death was one of the few moments in Naruto that got me legitimately choked up, so I was very excited to see how this would effect Ino, Chouji, and Shikamaru. There wasn't really anything wrong with their story. I think it ended up the best way it could have for all the characters. But it was broken up and sandwiched between so many other things that I just didn't care about. I appreciate that Kishimoto is trying to do some world-building in the wake of the Joint Shinobi Army. But the result--for me, at least--was a bunch of random stories about characters whose names I couldn't even remember. less
