review 1: The narrator makes this book a delight. He is brilliant and quirky with an insanely methodical approach to thievery. Like a Robin Hood who only takes from those who have plenty, he has a good heart. Unlike Robin, he is isolated to the point that mimicking an African Gray parrot is repartee that he looks forward to. Who would we become without relationships? And what serves as our moral compass? And how could we ever re-engage with the world around us?
review 2: This is the 2nd of his novels I have read and enjoyed this one as well. Martin is a thief...his job is breaking and entering into his "clients" homes while they are gone during the day. He has a complete system that he uses for each of his clients...he enters their homes and takes pictures of the
... morerooms, and the kind of things they have. His rule for himself is to only steal things they won't miss...which usually limits him to groceries, toiletries and every now and then a lone earring. During the day Martin works part time at Starbucks just to have health insurance. Martin comes to know and love most of his clients and when he happens to drive by one of their homes and notices another man sneaking out...Martin becomes a detective to find out who he is. The story is a quirky one but it kept me reading until the end. less

Took kind of a long time to get to the meat of the story but a decent read.

A very different sort of mystery, funny and heartwarming.
