review 1: I'm a fan of the European mysteries/crime novels. They are a nice change of pace from so much of the American stuff -- the authors aren't compelled to make the protagonist a super detective -- they are ordinary people with regular flaws and problems doing their best to get through the days. They also don't seem to be compelled to have endings that tie everything up in a bow where the hero saves they day. First one I've read by this author, but won't be the last.
review 2: This book isn't for the lighthearted but for readers who revel in the ominous and heavy (it is, after all, noir). The dark tale moves quickly despite covering decades. Characters are interesting and each wears his/her wounds for all to see. Readers will wrestle with finding a true innocent ... morein the story among the main characters, and the author leaves readers to ruminate whether or not vengeance ever comes to an end. For fans of suspense and contemporary Italian tales, this novel won't disappoint. less
