review 1: Solid! Max Gladstone's books manage to make magic and worship into the forces that drive and enable a modern society ... but that doesn't quite do them justice. "Craft" continues to be a sort of magic analogue to law practice; this book's set in a modern-day Mexico with a ton of old Mayan mythology and a protagonist with father issues. A fun read, perhaps not quite as compelling as the first, but still worth it.
review 2: As they say, the 2nd book is at times the easier one to write as well as the most difficult one. It's easier to write since all your exposition, stage and context setting, introductions have been done and you can just focus on the story. Difficult one to write esp if your first book was a super duper awesome in topping it. Max Gladstone has a
... moretougher task at hand primarily because the setting for book 2 is as far moved away from book 1. New characters, new storyline, new mythology (adding to the one in book 1), he doesn't make his or his characters life easier. Brilliant in conception, this is another winner. less

Just as great as the first one. Completely in love with the continuing world-building.

Really loved it, a solid "detective" and a well thought out fantasy world
