review 1: I couldn't figure this book out. Tom was so darn lovable one second, and a complete jerk the next. I found myself liking Will, who I didn't care much for in "Saving Francesca", and somehow loving Tom's family, but simultaneously finding them boring and dysfunctional. Some really great parts with some heartfelt moments made me want to give the book 5 stars, while other parts dragged and seemed disconnected, making me lose interest. Maybe I will read it again someday and re-evaluate this, but for now, 2 stars.
review 2: Love love love love love.I don't know how Marchetta does it, but she can write so many of these beautiful stories that make you care so much about people that could be living just next door from you. If Jellicoe Road was a story of Markhams an... mored Schroeders and Mckenzies and fate on the Jellicoe Road, then this is the heartbreaking tale of the Finches and the Mackees in the city.I cried so much during this book, that it was about 50 times what everyone else claims to have cried during The Fault In Our Stars. How can I be so touched about an average boy and his family struggling in a big city, and so nonchalant about a couple of teenagers dying of cancer?
