review 1: I was only a few pages into this book, the third in the SEALS Inc series, where a major discrepancy in the series timeline showed up and threatened to ruin my suspension of disbelief. In this book Cameron and Max (the main characters from the previous book) are now married and expecting a baby; Cameron is far enough gone to be showing and experiencing food cravings. However, in a conversation between Holly and Brett (this book's main characters) Holly refers to a conversation between them from 'last month'--a conversation that was included in the previous book, prior to Max and Cameron getting married or pregnant. A month is hardly enough time to plan a modest wedding, let alone a Cameron-style wedding. And it's no time at all when it comes to getting pregnant and growing a... more respectable bump! I suppose it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but it's the lack of attention to detail like this which can spoil the enjoyment of a book. A book that in every other respect, I found very engaging.SPOILER: There was a tendency in this story for the author to overplay the the relationship between Brett and Claire, his sister, but for anyone who has read the blurb for the next book in the series, it was hardly a surprise she was his sister so it was more annoying than anything else. It certainly didn't create any tension, as it seemed was the intent behind it.There's definitely a theme in what brings happiness for the characters in this series, and that's marriage and babies, I fully expect Brett and Holly to be married and pregnant when I read the fourth book, Tightly Wound, as that's the way it's run for the first three stories in this series. But, all said and done if you enjoyed the first two book in this series, you're bound to love this one too. The characters are all familiar by book three and the style and concept are comfortable. Max and Cameron remain the most colourful and engaging characters, even though this is Brett and Holly's story. So I hope we'll see more of them in book four.
review 2: As with all the books I noticed the disturbing editing issue that on more than one occasion it appears scenes have been cut/edited out but following events/scenes don't seem to take this into account so the reader is left with a huge what the F%$^& am I missing feeling.I've also noticed this author suffers from an inexplicable inability to understand the flow of time. She has elements in scenes as if months have pasted yet the characters will be talking/acting as if it is only a day or week later. The time-line issue is a long standing pet peeve of mine but I have never seen it so blatantly and utterly disregarded. It drove me nuts. This one was still readable but they are going downhill fast. less
