review 1: Connelly has been one of my go to favorites for years but this is the least wonderful of his books in my opinion. His new sidekick, Lucy Soto, didn't fire my imagination like some of his other partners and his new love interest never ignited and I found the ending depressing. I wonder if Connelly is growing bored with Bosch. He's been a great character over the years but I'd rather he go out in glory than linger and limp along.
review 2: A dud. Connolly emailed this one in. Very little action, a psycho Latina partner who is portrayed as a heroine when she should be charged with excessive force and drummed out of the corps. Harry's daughter is alienated from him so Connelly can ignore her. Very unsatisfactory and manipulative ending. The author should have re... moresisted blandishments to write another Bosch mystery and left us with our illusions intact. less
