Sebastian Bergman
review 1: Sebastian Bergman is without a doubt the most obnoxious, misogynistic, hateful "detective" figure whose story I've invested time in. I really don't know why anyone would build a series around such a figure. I thought the plot of this book was excellent and that's what kept me reading. Some of the other characters were very interesting too. But I really can't stomach Bergman, nor do I believe in him as a character. We (and his poor co-workers) don't get enough insight into the thought processes on which he bases his judgments. He just pronounces and then slams out the door. I would read another book in this series just to see if his personality adjusts at all and because there was a very fine surprise at the end of the book. There is nothing sympathetic about him tho... moreugh. He's a psychologist. I guess that's supposed to be ironic.
review 2: I liked this book. it was fast paced and you never guessed the killer (well, I didn't....). The writing is good and characters are well developed. My only complaint is that while reading it i kept remembering a college english professor who complained about books that seemed like they were written for the screen. The authors of this book ARE screenwriters and it shows. At times i felt like i was reading an episode of Law and Order. less
