review 1: You can see the screenwriting background in the writing style of Hjorth and Rosenfeldt. That does not mean that content is sacrificed for thrilling fast-paced chapters. This first in a series is very well written and the characters, especially Sebastian Bergman, are complex and all too human. The plot is well thought out and there were enough twists to keep it interesting without really withholding any information. The characters didn't know more than the reader and that makes for a gripping crime novel, in my opinion. The sub-plot of father-child relationships was interesting without being sappy or predictable. And the bomb at the end was a nice surprise! A great summer read. Can't wait for book 2.
review 2: A Swedish murder mystery crime thriller with
... more enough twists to keep you guessing right to the end. Took me awhile to get into the book & familiarise myself with the characters. And the main character is decidedly detestable. All these characters always have flaws & demons but Sebastian has more than most, but probably with good reason. The final twist after the crime is finally solved is also unexpected. less
