review 1: I loved this book. I realize that part of the reason that I loved it was because of its setting - West Baden and French Lick, Indiana. I am well acquainted with both small towns and their beautiful hotels. Michael Koryta paints a very realistic picture of the area, yet draws you into the fantasy of the character, Eric Shaw. Anyone who is remotely connected with this area will throughly love this book. Those who have never been there will be given an introduction to the history and romance of the area and then want to go in real life. This is something that most readers of fiction are unable to do. As another reviewer stated, it has a subtle paranormal theme and well as historical, thriller and horror elements to please most fans of mystery books.
review 2: This
... more is the second novel I've read by Mr. Koryta, and he is fast becoming my go to author for suspenseful stories with just a little supernatural creepiness. This one takes place in West Baden, IN and centers around the Hot Springs and hotels there. A down on his luck film maker is asked to create a video of the life of a wealthy, older man, but there are questions surrounding this man's true identity. Add a bottle of spring water that may or may not be poisoned (or maybe it's just evil) and you've got one heck of a page turner. less
