review 1: I'm sorry to say that I didn't care for this book too much. I really wanted to like it more, but it just never panned out for me. The story started out pretty well, a young girl goes to a PI looking for information about a father she that she got to know through writing to him while he was in jail. Said father is now out and sends his daughter a letter telling her she should just forget all about him, but now that she knows who he is, she wants to get to really know him. Next thing you know, the girl turns up dead and the PI feels responsible for giving her the address of her would be father. We find out that the sister of the PI (Adam) was murdered 20 years ago and he happens to feel responsible for her murder. Alright, so far, so good. What bugged me about the book was t... morehe football. Sorry, not a big football fan, so reading page after page of football practice, plays, and games? Not my thing. I actually skipped over those parts. The relationship between the two brothers, Adam and (I can't remember his name) was interesting, and there is a pretty good reveal about the murderer, but I've read better murder mysteries.
review 2: I enjoyed this book, a thriller-mystery and an entertaining break from my other reading. I stayed up to 4 am to finish it, it was so engrossing. Well paced and carefully crafted, the novel's outcome was in doubt until the final pages, so don't spoil the fun by reading the last pages too soon! I also enjoyed the use of football as the background metaphor for the story. Overall, well done. I give it four stars because the reconciliation between the brothers seemed unnatural, forced. I also find that the tattooed snake-handling girlfriend was just a little over the top. But overall, it all worked. A good read. less

I enjoyed the story line, although it bogged down a few times. The characters were well developed.
