review 1: I was left in utter awe after getting a glimpse of the capabilities and efficiency of the human mind. For example, we are able to perform seemingly simple tasks such as identifying the content of a picture in a mere 100 neuron steps (half a second), where it would take a computer literally billions of steps to do the same thing. This knowledge will provide me some comfort the next time I lose to a computer chess program. :)
review 2: Thought provoking, interesting and enjoyable. Although a few years old this book detailed many areas of study in neuroscience that is being used to explore and define how our brain works. For Gazzaniga is telling us that it is the function of our brains that makes us unique. That is, the unique way in which our brain is wired and
... more functions that separates us from the other animals. The last chapter was particularly enjoyable. Gazzaniga reported on the different attempts to model and create artificial intelligence. Postulating where this might lead us as a species. Loved it. less

Stopped reading only about 10 pages in - too much neural anatomy for me to really enjoy and follow.

Heard about this book an interview with the author on NPR. Piqued my curiosity.
