review 1: I don't remember why I picked this up... probably because it was about a polygamist group. The polygamy part of it seemed to be the feature of the first third of the book. That part of the book was just OK. Around the beginning of the second third the plot became interesting as the mystery part started to get more prominent. The mystery is interesting enough to keep me reading. Maybe 3/4 s of the way into this the book became so engrossing that I really looked forward to getting back to it.You can see from my rating I didn't think this was the best thing I'd ever read. It was good, not great.
review 2: Mixed feelings about this book. Wallace does a good job differentiating the novel community from mainstream Mormonism, which I was concerned about. I like th
... moree characters, though they feel a bit one-dimensional -- maybe they'll be developed more through the series. I liked the plot, but the pacing was a little off, and I wish the reader weren't omniscient -- leave a mystery for us to solve. I do like that Wallace set himself up for the sequel, but the story was still resolved, so I didn't feel cheated. less

Good enough that I am reading the second book. Interesting descriptions of LDS things.

Slow developing drama. Combines religious radicalism and romance
