review 1: Published as "Song of Roland" in English, this Paul book is the story of Paul's father-in-law, from a hard-scrabble youth to his retirement as a generous grandpa and then his final days in hospice care.This is pretty emotional stuff, and the pacing and artwork tell the story in a wonderfully sweet way, not skimping on frailties and moments of bad behavior.I love all the Paul books I've read so far, but if you're going to read only one, this may be it. Just be prepared with some tissues.
review 2: This volume in the Paul series deals with the death and dying of his father-in-law. A balance between the patient experience and the caregiver experience is presented and the passage of time speeds up and slows down appropriately. I liked that readers were getting to k... morenow Roland as Paul was getting to know Roland. Their relationship went through a significant change over the course of the book as, at first, Paul only knows Roland formerly, not even calling him by his first name, then Roland opens up about his early life giving Paul (and readers) a feel for what makes him tick.Truthful and heart-wrenching, this book will make readers feel like they have lost a loved one after they turn the final page. Recommended for character-driven adult comic book lovers. less
