ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN – Epic Masterstroke ‘NOTHING LASTS FOREVER’ Released 20 Years Ago…

When timeless in sound and vision…

‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ by ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN

After the band split in 1988 ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN reformed in 1997 with original members Ian McCulloch (singer/songwriter/big mouth), Will Sergeant (musical maestro, guitarist) and Les Pattinson (bassist). Unfortunately they had to replace the late Pete De Freitas, the group’s first drummer who died tragically in a motorcycle accident (1989). Comeback album EVERGREEN was an overall moody LP with some outstanding tracks such as:  I Want To Be There (When You Come) / I’ll Fly Tonight / In My Time and Just A Touch Away. But the unquestionable masterstroke was epic single NOTHING LASTS FOREVER. Melancholic brilliance with McCulloch‘s voice as the song’s captivating instrument. A truly grand composition and performance (with, yes, Liam Gallagher on ‘la la la’ backing vocals in the chorus). The single was released on 20 June 1997 – 20 years ago. Here’s the clip, shot in Morocco, for this timeless classic…

I want it now
I want it now
Not the promises of what tomorrow brings
I need to live in dreams today
I’m tired of the song that sorrow sings

And I want more than I can get
Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget

I’d walk to you through rings of fire
And never let you know the way I feel
Under skin is where I hide
The love that always gets me on my knees

And I want more than I can get
Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget

[Repeat: x4]
Nothing ever lasts forever

I want it now
I want it now
Don’t tell me that my ship is coming in
Nothing comes to those who wait
Time’s running out the door you’re running in

So, I want more than I can get
Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget

[Repeat: x4]
Nothing ever lasts forever

[Repeat: x8]
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you

Evergreen album – released 14 July 1997…
