review 1: Basically this is an Alice Munro book that is actually readable and isn't burned in the fire after 30 minutes. The first half I really liked, after it got more into rich people issues in Anaheim and Arcadia it was kind of blah. I still didn't mind finishing it. Being trapped on a plane for 13 hours was a factor so keep that in mind. 2.5 is probably more accurate but I felt it was 4 star the first 150 pages. Instead of reading this read Empire Falls or something like A Prayer for Owen Meany or The World According to Garp.
review 2: This is the second book I've read by Michelle Huneven. Her stories seem to focus on the characters and how they develop and change than on the plot of the story. As a result, I find that even if I don't particularly like the character
... mores, I care about what happens to them which makes me keep reading. In reading the description of this book, I really expected a greater focus on Patsy's 'crime' and her time spent in jail. Instead, this was only a small portion of the book and the remainder focused on how she re-adjusted to life while also dealing with the guilt she felt. While reading this book, I think it's important to really step back and reflect on why she made the choices she made after her release from prison. While the latter part of the book is really focused on her marriage and family life, her past creeps into all aspects of that. less

Nothing special. Got it from a free pile and to a free pile it will return. Good quick distraction.

Pretty good for a first book but not a page turner.
