review 1: I wasn't enthralled with this book. Basically because I thought the protagonist was a twat. The writing's not bad, but my ratings are on my enjoyment of the book, not its technical merits. It also could have used better introductions to some of the characters, I got lost a few times when she started talking about someone. But yeah, basically a female Tony Soprano, with less killing or Don Draper. No sympathy coming from over here...
review 2: This is a story about a young woman who escapes to her parents' mountain cabin to finish her dissertation in the economics of the art world and instead hooks up with almost every man in the town - and then suffers the consequences. ... morenovel, which never found a publisher. I had some well-read friends read it and one comment was "everyone is so unhappy." I felt similarly about this book - everyone was so unlikeable, and there was not a single person to root for. Now I understand the importance of having at least one sympathetic character.
